Helping Children and Families
Sometimes families face overwhelming challenges that can’t be overcome alone. That’s when a community needs to share its strengths, whether it means helping a family cope with a crisis or steering a child on the right path.
The Challenge of Building Stability for Children
- 329,699 children in New York City have mental-health needs, while 24,823 have been abused or neglected.
- 30,000 Jewish children in the former Soviet Union are at risk.
- 15 percent of all young people in Israel — about 350,000 — are neglected, abused, or otherwise at risk.
UJA-Federation’s Response
We provide essential support to beneficiary agencies and grantees serving children and families.
Last year, our collective impact helped provide:
- More than 20,000 children in the New York area with counseling in residential, foster-home, and community programs.
- 27,000 Jewish children in the former Soviet Union with emergency grants, food, and therapy.
- 350,000 Israeli at-risk children with programs that offer prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
