About the Speaker
Letty Cottin Pogrebin is a founding editor and writer for Ms. Magazine, an award-winning journalist, widely-published opinion writer, public speaker, political activist, and author of several nonfiction bestsellers. Besides her 20-year affiliation with Ms. Magazine, Ms. Pogrebin has published articles and op-eds in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other publications.
Throughout her recent bout with breast cancer, Ms. Pogrebin became intrigued by her friends’ and family’s diverse reactions to her and her illness: how awkwardly some of them behaved; how they misspoke or misinterpreted her needs; and how wonderful it was when people read her right.
She channeled her experiences into her newest book, How to Be a Friend to a Friend Who’s Sick, a collection of emotionally candid stories from her own journey through illness and her sometimes imperfect interactions with her own sick friends.
