Participants in 2010's Executive for a Day program visited a number of agencies and gained an insider's perspective into UJA-Federation's network.

The Executive for a Day program brings together select donors and lay leaders to participate in an individualized, half-day visit to a UJA-Federation beneficiary agency where they will shadow a chief executive. Participants will learn about the inner workings and challenges faced by the agency they visit. The itinerary of each comprehensive visit is carefully tailored to match the interests of the participant. This important program is fostering a special bond among UJA-Federation, agency professionals, and prominent leaders of our community.

“I just wanted to e-mail you and tell you how much I enjoyed participating in Executive for a Day. I went to the United Jewish Council of the East Side and was so impressed. Joel Kaplan, the executive director, is incredible, and it was the first time that I really got an understanding of the depth of services these agencies offer. It was so eye-opening and educational. I am so grateful that I was able to participate. Thank you for putting it together. Hope to see you soon.”

“Back from a great day! Selfhelp Community Services is amazing, and we loved learning all about it. Fantastic people!”

Susanne Jaffe
“The size and breadth of services made available by Jewish Home Lifecare really is a secret. It’s not well known that they have everything from palliative care to housing, from nursing-home beds to homecare services.”

Jeffrey M. Kaplan
“Executive for a Day is a great way to see UJA-Federation’s mission in action. We visited several people who have benefited from the Hebrew Free Loan Society’s microenterprise lending program. They are real entrepreneurs who are starting or growing their own businesses. These businesses had no other viable access to funding. On this visit, I could see the impact of our support for those who are less fortunate, people right here in our own backyard — Brooklyn, in this case. The quality time spent with the senior management team of the Hebrew Free Loan Society was vastly superior to any other kind of visit to this agency. Overall, the program was very helpful in giving some context to the work Robin and I do for UJA-Federation, and in offering us some concrete examples as we spread the message to others about UJA-Federation’s good work.”
