Strengthening Global Connections
UJA-Federation of New York supports international programs designed to promote a sense of connection among Jews. We reinforce the belief that, no matter what country a Jew comes from, we’re one people.
Located in Jewish community centers, summer camps, synagogues, and schools, these programs seek to increase awareness about the global Jewish community and build stronger connections between Jews and Israel. And among Jews everywhere.

The Challenge of Building Global Jewish Community
- Jewish communities are spread throughout six continents.
- Common languages, such as Yiddish and Ladino, and cultures that were once shared across national boundaries are no longer as strong as they used to be.
- Jews in different communities have unique ways of defining and expressing their Jewish identities.
- There are a significant number of Jews living in remote communities that lack the resources and leadership to connect them to the larger Jewish community.
UJA-Federation’s Response
We provide essential support to beneficiary agencies and grantees that help strengthen ties among communities in New York, in Israel, and around the world.
Last year, our collective impact helped provide:
- 35 international exchange programs in 42 distinct Jewish communities.
- Jewish peoplehood programs for more than 5,000 individuals.
- The opportunity for five European Jewish communities to participate in programs with communities in the United States and Israel.
- Support for a range of programs in Europe to assist Jewish communities that are working to rebuild Jewish life and connect to global Jewry.
