Jewish Summer Camps

UJA-Federation of New York supports Jewish summer camps that enable kids to learn and grow while being immersed in a place devoted to Jewish values, traditions, and culture. Our goal: to build a strong and inspired Jewish community for future generations.

The Challenge of Providing a Jewish Experience

In the greater New York area, less than 10 percent of the Jewish community’s children attend a Jewish summer camp. Each summer, about 18 percent of the beds at local Jewish sleepaway camps remain unfilled.

UJA-Federation’s Response

We provide essential support to Jewish summer camps through our network of agencies and grantees.

Last year, our collective impact helped provide:

• 7,000 New York children with day and residential Jewish summer camp experiences through critical scholarships.
• 3,230 children from the former Soviet Union with their only opportunity to attend a Jewish summer camp, helping them learn about their Jewish values and traditions.
• A first ever Jewish environmental overnight camp experience at Eden Village Camp for more than 300 campers.
• 100 teens from Russian-speaking families with their first summer camp experience at Camp B’Yachad.
• Incentive grants through the Campership initiative that have allowed 2,122 children since 2008 to enjoy their first summer residential Jewish summer camp experiences.
