Did you know that 92 percent of Africa is dark when the sun goes down? Students can’t study, clinics have to use dangerous kerosene lamps, and orphanages are dark. I couldn’t imagine not being able to have light at night.
That’s why I chose to support the organization Jewish Heart For Africa for my mitzvah project. They help bring sustainable Israeli technologies such as solar power and agricultural methods to rural villages in Africa.
Jewish heart for Africa is a non-profit organization that brings sustainable Israeli technologies to African villages. Their mission is to save African lives with Israeli innovation, all while supporting Israel’s economy and image abroad. The organization was founded in 2008 and in less than three years Jewish heart for Africa has provided light, clean water, food and proper medical care to more than 150,000 people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi and Uganda. The “mitzvah” in Bat Mitzvah means to do a good deed. I have selected a project that encompasses things that are important to me, namely green and environmental issues, supporting Israel, and helping those who are not as fortunate in the world.
I chose this project through UJA-Federation’s Give a Mitzvah-Do a Mitzvah program. My goal is to raise enough money to sponsor a solar panel for a medical center in Tanzania.
I have already had a bake sale and lemonade stand to raise money, and have lots of other fundraising initiatives in the works. I will also be donating a portion of my Bat Mitzvah gifts to this important cause. I greatly appreciate your generosity to support this important organization. 100% of your donation will go directly to benefit the project that I have chosen to fund and UJA-Federation will inform me that you have made a donation in honor of my Bat Mitzvah.
