July 19th, 2016

Total Fundraising for Year is $207.6 Million

New York City (July 19, 2016) — For the fourth year in a row, UJA-Federation of New York has raised more money in its annual campaign than the previous year — raising a total of $153.4 million, an increase of $2.6 million over last year. In addition to the annual campaign (which concluded June 30), the organization recorded $39.2 million through planned giving and endowments, and raised $15 million for capital projects and special initiatives. Total fundraising for the year is $207.6 million.

“At a time of increasing challenge and uncertainty, we’re particularly grateful to our donors for their extraordinary generosity, enabling us to tackle an ever-growing list of urgent needs for millions of people in New York, Israel and around the world,” said Eric S. Goldstein, CEO, UJA-Federation of New York. “From helping New Yorkers who live at or near poverty, to the growing threats of anti-Semitism and BDS on college campuses, to strengthening Israel and supporting Jewish life — the programs we fund will have immense impact in our community.”

“Raising more than $153 million in one year for an annual campaign is a remarkable feat for an organization of any size, anywhere in the world,” said Alisa R. Doctoroff, whose term as President ended June 30, 2016. “I am so proud to have worked side by side with the talented professionals at UJA and the tens of thousands of donors who make all the work possible.”

“This campaign reflects the contributions of the talented volunteers and staff professionals who help UJA fulfill its mission,” said Jeffrey A. Schoenfeld, who assumed the volunteer role of president of UJA-Federation of New York on July 1st. “As UJA enters its centennial year, our donors have set an important marker that the work of UJA-Federation has never been more important and vital.”

UJA-Federation’s annual campaign remains the single largest philanthropic effort by any local community in the world. The 2016 general campaign ran from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. The 2015-2016 co-chairs were Jeffrey A. Schoenfeld and David Moore. Mark D. Medin serves as UJA-Federation executive vice president of Financial Resource Development.
