Volunteer (Office Worker)
Dates: Ongoing (Once per week. Flexible hours.)
Location: Jewish Association Serving the Aging, 131 Beach 19th Street, Far Rockaway

Help the Jewish Association Serving the Aging implement its Meals on Wheels program for homebound seniors by typing, filing, and performing other clerical duties.

Volunteer (Patient Care)
Dates: Ongoing (One eight-hour shift per week. Flexible schedule.)
Location: Maimonides Medical Center, 4802 Tenth Avenue, Brooklyn

Maimonides Medical Center needs volunteers to help care for patients with special needs, under the supervision of a nurse manager or other healthcare professional. Volunteers will offer companionship, feed patients, and perform other tasks.

Volunteers (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Outreach)

Requirements: Excellent communications skills. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
The New York Legal Assistance Group needs volunteers to help alleviate hunger by increasing access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Responsibilities include screening clients for eligibility, filing for fair hearings, and distributing relevant information. Volunteers, who will work primarily with immigrant and elderly populations, must complete NYLAG’s training program.

Volunteer (Meal Service)
Dates: Ongoing (Weekly: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.) (Biweekly: Thursdays and Fridays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.) (Monthly: Sundays, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.)

The Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst and We Build New York need volunteers to donate food and help rebuild homes for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Volunteers are asked to bring one non-perishable food item.

The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty needs volunteers to distribute informational flyers to help increase access to public-benefits programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicare, Medicaid, and Hurricane Sandy relief agencies.

Volunteer Leader (Nutrition and Wellness Program)
Dates: Ongoing (Recommended hours: once per week for a minimum of three months)
Location: Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty (various low-income senior housing sites throughout New York City)

The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty needs volunteers to create and lead programs promoting the benefits of a healthy diet for low-income older adults living in Met Council’s senior-housing complexes.

Location: Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty (various low-income senior housing sites throughout New York City)

Volunteers can help the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty create a meaningful Passover this year for low-income older adults by encouraging their schools, colleagues, communities, families, or synagogues to donate $150 to cover the cost of catering a kosher meal at one of Met Council's senior residences. Sponsoring groups are also asked to serve meals and socialize with seniors.
