Operation Exodus: A Modern Miracle
Twenty years ago, UJA-Federation of New York raised $177.5 million to launch Operation Exodus. In just a few years, this historic effort brought 700,000 Jews from the former Soviet Union to Israel and 130,000 to New York.
Under the leadership of Peter W. May, who was honored at The Wall Street Dinner on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, the New York Jewish community helped transform a dangerous situation for Soviet Jews into one of the largest rescue and resettlement efforts in history.
As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of this successful campaign, we celebrate the freedom it guaranteed for thousands of new immigrants whose skills and talents helped shape a thriving Jewish nation.
