Passover Volunteer Projects
This Passover, make the holiday special for many vulnerable New Yorkers by volunteering at a communal seder or donating kosher for Passover items.
Volunteer (Companion/Package Delivery)
Date: Sunday, March 25, 2012 (3 hours) (Pre-registration is required by Monday, March 19, 2012.)
Location: Manhattan (Upper West Side or Upper East Side)
DOROT seeks volunteers to deliver a kosher for Passover food package to a senior, while also offering an hour of companionship.
Volunteer (Seder Assistant)
Dates: Friday, April 6 – Saturday, April 7, 2012, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 68 Hauppauge Road in Commack
This agency is seeking volunteers to escort residents from their rooms to the facility’s seder and assist during the event.
Volunteer (Holiday-Services Escort)
Dates: Saturday, April 7 – Sunday, April 8, 2012, and Friday, April 13 – Saturday, April 14, 2012, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. (Volunteer opportunities are for any or all dates.)
Location: Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 68 Hauppauge Road in Commack
This agency seeks volunteers to help residents in wheelchairs attend Passover services and assist with the program.
Volunteer (Passover Package Delivery)
Date: Sunday, March 25, 2012 (1 hour and 30 minutes)
Location: 2050 Bartow Avenue in the Bronx
The Bronx Jewish Community Council seeks volunteers to deliver Passover food packages to older adults who are homebound, isolated, or impoverished.
Collection (Passover Food Drive)
Dates: Thursday, March 1 – Thursday, April 5, 2012
Location: Jewish Community Center in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue (collection bin in the lobby)
This agency, which is collecting food for the needy, will accept nonperishable kosher for Passover items that are sealed or canned. All donated food will be distributed to City Harvest for its Passover Food Drive.
Volunteer (Passover Model Seder)
Date: Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Location: Jewish Association Serving the Aging at JASA Van Cortlandt Senior Center, 3880 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx
Volunteers will help this agency conduct a Passover seder for seniors by setting tables and reading or singing designated parts of the Haggadah.
Volunteer (Passover Celebration Preparation)
Date: Tuesday, April 3, 2012, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Location: Jewish Association Serving the Aging at JASA Senior Alliance Senior Center, 161 Corbin Place in Brooklyn
This agency needs volunteers to help prepare the dining room for a Passover seder, including cleaning up after the agency’s senior-lunch program and setting tables for the Passover celebration.

Dates: Friday, April 6 – Saturday, April 7, 2012, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.

This agency needs volunteers to help organize its Passover seders, including setting tables, escorting seniors, and assisting during one or both programs.
