February 2, 2012 (New York, NY) – Drawing on the strength of the Jewish community, more than 800 volunteers gathered for UJA-Federation of New York’s annual Super Sunday phone-a-thon on Sunday, January 29, 2012, raising more than $735,000 from 1,045 donors to help care for people in need, inspire a passion for Jewish life and learning, and strengthen Jewish communities around the globe.
To help bring more excitement and energy to Super Sunday, a group of teens from the Marks Jewish Community House (JCH) of Bensonhurst, clad in bright orange t-shirts, kicked off the event by performing an original rap song that they wrote (the rap is available to watch here: http://www.ujafedny.org/video-super-sunday-2012/).
“Each of us can help in our own individual way, but when we leverage our collective voice, we can multiply our impact and truly make a difference in the lives of everyone in need,” said Alex Budnitsky, a Super Sunday chair who is CEO and executive director of the JCH of Bensonhurst. The other Super Sunday chair, Ilene Marcus, chief of staff at the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, said “Super Sunday exemplifies UJA-Federation’s successful efforts at addressing the needs of and caring for the Jewish community both here and abroad. It demonstrates community building and philanthropic commitment that sets an example for younger generations of Jews.”
