Pursuing Jewish Social Action

This fall, with support from UJA-Federation, 19 groups from a diverse range of Jewish organizations participated in volunteer projects that showed the spirit and meaning of Jewish Social Action Month.

“It is wonderful to see how different groups all over the metropolitan area have responded to the concept and are applying it in diverse and interesting ways,” notes Esther Goldman, chair of UJA-Federation’s Commission on the Jewish People’s (COJP) New York Jewry Task Force.

Projects took place throughout New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, ranging from organizing a food drive to visiting elderly residents in a nursing home.

Among the activities was PaintFest at Temple Israel of New Rochelle which brought together teens from six synagogues in Westchester to paint wall decorations for nearby hospitals. COJP supported the projects of Jewish Social Action Month, which corresponds to the month of Cheshvan in the Jewish calendar.
