How: Leads exercise sessions and develops art projects. “I watch tapes and develop easy, gentle exercises with a lot of variety. And every time I see a pretty picture, card, or magazine, I always think about what kind of art project I could make out of that.”
Why: “These are the forgotten people. It’s a warm feeling to see them enjoy themselves, otherwise they would just be home alone. Here, people come alive.”

What: Coordinates an after-school program with arts and crafts, dancing, ball playing, and homework help for homeless children between the ages of 5 and 15.
Where: Tanger Hillel at Brooklyn College
How: “The most challenging part of the work is trying to figure out activities. We are always trying to think of something new, and at the same time something the kids will enjoy.”
Why: “The most rewarding part is seeing how happy it makes the children — to be able to take a trip out of the shelter, and have some time to relax, have some fun, and also be able to get their work done at the same time.”
