Muehlstein Institute: Agency Involvement

Cost

The Muehlstein Institute for Jewish Professional Leadership is made possible through a generous grant from the Herman Muehlstein Foundation, Inc. This financial support significantly reduces the cost of participation in the Muehlstein Institute for the sponsoring agency.

Expectations of Fellow's Supervisor

The fellow's learning experience in the institute is greatly enhanced when his or her direct supervisor is actively engaged. Supervisors are encouraged to review material with fellows on a regular basis, provide opportunities for practice and workplace application, and offer support as needed for the design and implementation of a project. An orientation for supervisors will be scheduled early in the first semester of the institute. It is designed to explain the program and review roles and expectations. There will be one seminar for supervisors on an evening in early December of the first year of the program, and others may be offered if desired. As part of the ongoing effort to strengthen the connection between the learning and the workplace environments, supervisors are expected to meet once with the institute's program manager and twice with the institute's program evaluator.

Enrollment Agreement

Enrollment in the institute is contingent on an agreement signed by the sponsoring agency's executive director, the fellow's direct supervisor, and the fellow. The agreement outlines the agency's obligations, including paying the fellow's full salary while engaged in the institute and providing paid release time for attendance at all sessions of the institute. The agreement also outlines the fellow's obligations, including participating fully in all components of the institute, which requires a significant amount of time and advance preparation; participating in the development of a group project that has practical applications for one or more sponsoring agencies or the Jewish communal sector in general; and, where appropriate, presenting the project to these agencies on completion of the institute. It is expected that the fellow will remain with the sponsoring agency for the duration of the institute's program and that the fellow intends to remain in the field of Jewish communal service following completion of the institute.
