Since 1948, Israel has blossomed into a dynamic country on the cutting edge of technology, science, and culture, and still firmly committed to fulfilling the promise of democracy.

Throughout the years, UJA-Federation of New York has worked to help Israel become a viable Jewish state. Over the course of six decades, our community has invested more than $1 billion to improve the quality of life for millions of Israelis — and to make sure every Jew who wishes to make aliyah can realize that dream.

An Indispensable Role

Today, recognizing the dramatic changes in the country, UJA-Federation continues to play an indispensable role. In just one year, through our beneficiary agencies and grantees, we provided:

  • 18,000 Jews from six continents with the opportunity to build new lives in Israel — part of the 3 million we’ve helped resettle since 1948.
  • 350,000 impoverished and abused children with programs that offer prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • 46,000 elderly Israelis with access to the services and support they need to remain independent.
  • 2,200 Ethiopian children in Rehovot with an educational head start.
  • 300,000 Israelis with Jewish educational, cultural, and religious programs at nearly 75 community centers around the country.
  • 60,000 Israeli schoolchildren with trauma treatment to help them cope with rocket attacks against civilian neighborhoods and other acts of violence.
  • $12 million in loans to enable low-income Israelis to start 260 small businesses.
  • 10,000 young Jews with a trip to Israel through Taglit-Birthright Israel and other programs.

In our continuing efforts to reach out to Israelis on multiple levels, we're ensuring the vitality of a democratic Jewish state, one whose existence is the source of strength, solace, and a shared passion for Jews around the globe.
