Supporting Israel
Since 1948, Israel has blossomed into a dynamic country on the cutting edge of technology, science, and culture, and still firmly committed to fulfilling the promise of democracy.
Throughout the years, UJA-Federation of New York has worked to help Israel become a viable Jewish state. Over the course of six decades, our community has invested more than $1 billion to improve the quality of life for millions of Israelis — and to make sure every Jew who wishes to make aliyah can realize that dream.
An Indispensable Role
Today, recognizing the dramatic changes in the country, UJA-Federation continues to play an indispensable role. In just one year, through our beneficiary agencies and grantees, we provided:
- 19,300 Jews with the opportunity to make aliyah — in addition to the more than 3 million we’ve helped resettle in Israel since 1948.
- 30,000 impoverished and at-risk children with programs that offer economic relief, support groups, counseling and crisis intervention
- 50,000 elderly Israelis — including thousands of Holocaust survivors — with the services they need to remain healthy and independent.
- 2,800 Ethiopian children in Israel with head-start education programs.
- 380,000 Israelis with Jewish educational, cultural, and spiritual programs.
- 52,000 Israeli children with trauma counseling to cope with rocket attacks.
- 8,000 young Jews with a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip and other programs that allow them to experience it all for themselves.
In our continuing efforts to reach out to Israelis on multiple levels, we're ensuring the vitality of a democratic Jewish state, one whose existence is the source of strength, solace, and a shared passion for Jews around the globe.
