Supporting Summer Camps
UJA-Federation of New York supports Jewish camps that enable kids to learn and grow while being immersed in a place devoted to Jewish values, traditions, and culture. Our goal: to build a strong and inspired Jewish community for future generations.
The Challenge of Providing a Jewish Experience
- In the greater New York area, less than 10 percent of the Jewish community’s children attend a Jewish summer camp.
- Each summer, about 18 percent of the beds at local Jewish sleepaway camps remain unfilled.
UJA-Federation’s Response
We provide essential support to Jewish camps through our beneficiary agencies and grantees.
Last year, our collective impact helped provide:
- 6,500 New York children with day and residential summer camp experiences through critical scholarships.
- 3,100 children in the former Soviet Union with a camp experience, helping them learn about their Jewish values and traditions.
- The first ever Jewish environmental overnight camp experience at Eden Village Camp for 140 campers from 17 states.
- Incentive grants through the Campership initiative that have allowed 1,950 children during the summers of 2008 through 2010 to enjoy their first summer residential summer camp experiences.
For 2011, UJA-Federation of New York and the Foundation for Jewish Camp are offering targeted incentive grants at three UJA-Federation network camps to first-time campers from under-represented groups and geographic areas. Visit each camp to learn more:
