Time for New Jewish Community Census
A full-scale demographic study of New York’s Jewish population, last conducted about 10 years ago, has been launched by UJA-Federation of New York.
The Jewish Community Study of New York: 2011 will estimate the size, geographic distribution, and socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and cultural attributes of the Jewish population in the New York metropolitan area. It will include relevant data from the five boroughs of New York City and Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties.
“As they have with previous studies, the results will be used to support more informed decisions in planning, service delivery, fundraising, and other activities,” says Jennifer Rosenberg, UJA-Federation’s director of research and director of the study. “They will also be used by our beneficiary agencies, synagogues, academics, public officials, and the media.”
The projected timetable for the study calls for the development of a questionnaire during the fall of 2010, the rollout of fieldwork during the first half of 2011, and the analysis of the information during the last half of 2011. Publication is scheduled for 2012.
