Once a week for the last three years, Shirley Gold, 83, has volunteered at the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center on Long Island for a program with adults under age 60 who have early-onset Alzheimer’s or dementia. The Sid Jacobson JCC is a UJA-Federation beneficiary agency.

Gold lends a hand to the Let’s Do Lunch program that offers lunch, conversation, and an exercise session with dancing for a group of 10 men and women.

“It’s phenomenal to help out,” Gold says. “I enjoy every minute of it, although it can be difficult to watch the inevitable decline.”
