Join your colleagues for an enjoyable, interactive engagement designed equip you to better understand the history, structure, and institutions of the organized Jewish community from a national perspective. In addition, you'll look at recent developments that expand, enhance, and challenge the very parts of Jewish life that many hold dear.

To provide a framework for understanding the context of your day-to-day work, you'll learn about:

  • Various ways of defining community
  • The federation movement and federated giving
  • New models in philanthropy
  • The role of synagogues
  • Alternate expressions of Jewishness

Instructor

Steven J. Rod is vice president of professional development services of the Jewish Community Centers Association of North America. His department's portfolio is the recruitment, placement, training, and development of the more then 2,800 professionals in JCCs throughout North America. He earned a master's degree from Yeshiva University's Wurzweiler School of Social Work and, with the exception of two years as federation director, he has been a JCC professional for almost 40 years, having served in four different JCCs and, since 1988, at the JCC Association.
