Join our winter Beyond the Book session with moderator Ellen Witchell, where we’ll be discussing The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. Named a Best Book of the Year by NPR/Fresh Air, this novel is about small-town secrets and the people who keep them. Told through the stories of working-class immigrant Jews and African Americans in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, you'll read about how the community comes together to save a disabled child from being institutionalized by the state.

You’ll also learn more about how UJA is responding to the ongoing needs in Israel, in New York, and around the world.

We ask that you please purchase and read the book in advance.

This event welcomes donors who give an annual gift of $1,000 or more, individually or as a family, to UJA-Federation.
