Why should I volunteer through UJA-Federation of New York?

UJA-Federation of New York's volunteer center brings the New York Jewish community together to make a positive impact on the world by matching individuals, groups, and families with volunteer opportunities that fit their interests, skills, and availability — in New York and around the world. Our network of more than 100 beneficiary agencies offers a single point of access to a large number of volunteer opportunities.

Are there age requirements to volunteer?

Age is not a barrier. We all have something to offer, no matter our age or background. However, in many situations, if a child is volunteering, an adult must accompany him or her.

What skills are required to volunteer?

Most volunteer positions do not have specific skill requirements, but any special skills, knowledge, or experience required will be stated early on in the process. Occasionally, volunteers will be carefully selected based on specific skills and qualities. If you have any special skills or qualifications that you think may be useful, please be sure to let us know when you register on our site.

What types of volunteer opportunities do you offer?

We can connect you with family, teen, and group opportunities that allow you to volunteer with family, friends, and co-workers, as well as programs for singles. You can choose from one-time and ongoing projects. We also offer committee or board of directors leadership opportunities.

Find the perfect position for you in our database of volunteer opportunities.

What types of volunteer opportunities do you have for teens?

Several of our beneficiary agencies offer volunteer options that are tailored just for teenagers. These programs might involve tutoring young children, making holiday decorations for seniors, or visiting people in hospitals.
