Join us to commemorate Yom HaShoah and hear from Holocaust survivor David Zajac, in conversation with his granddaughter Sophie Kleinhandler, as he shares his story of survival and triumph. David was born in Paris, France, and was only four years old when the war began and he learned that his father had been killed at Auschwitz. While he and his family were at the Gurs internment camp, the French Underground arranged for them to be hidden at a farm in Central France until liberation. In 1949, David immigrated to the U.S., where he received his degree in chemistry and laid down roots to start his family.
You’ll also learn more about how UJA’s Community Initiative for Holocaust Survivors (CIHS) is caring for survivors’ physical, emotional, and social needs amid the resurgence of antisemitism they once fought so hard to escape.
This event is hosted by the Chai Project Committee.
UJA Young Leaders programs are geared toward those in their 20s and 30s who want to make an impact.
