UJA-Federation Mourns New York State Assemblymember Michael Simanowitz
September 5th, 2017

On behalf of UJA-Federation of New York and its Board of Directors, we mourn the sudden passing of New York State Assemblymember Michael Simanowitz.

Beloved by his colleagues regardless of political affiliation, Assemblymember Simanowitz was a man of conviction, who acted with his conscience and was driven by a set of guiding principles to help others. He was dedicated to aiding his constituents and the Jewish community at large. UJA is grateful for his support for our community, particularly New York’s Holocaust survivors, and his efforts to enhance security and educational opportunities at nonpublic schools.

Michael’s Jewish faith was of the utmost importance to him and he took great pride in representing his community both in Queens and Albany. He was a mensch, true public servant, and a devoted husband and father to four children.

May his family and loved ones be comforted amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
