This is the fifth year in a row that UJA’s annual campaign has raised more money than the previous year. The campaign year ended on June 30, 2017.
“We couldn’t be more grateful to the New York Jewish community for its support of UJA’s vital work during our centennial year,” said Eric S. Goldstein, CEO of UJA-Federation of New York. “More than ever, UJA serves as the critical safety net for the most vulnerable in our community, and sustains and strengthens Jewish life locally and globally.”
“UJA lay leaders and donors have ensured we are prepared to meet the challenges of the next 100 years,” said Jeffrey A. Schoenfeld, president of UJA-Federation of New York. “At a time of tremendous need here in New York as well as for Jews in Israel and around the world, our donors have made it clear — UJA has never been more valuable or vital as we start our second century.”
UJA initiated three groundbreaking capital initiatives during its centennial year that will enable critical infrastructure for community needs well into the future: (1) transforming Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds to provide a rich and meaningful Jewish camp experience to over 6,000 children each summer; (2) creating innovative community resource hubs in Brooklyn and Queens that will bring together cutting-edge kosher food choice pantries, workforce development training, access to benefits, legal services, and case management — all under one roof; and (3) building the Kirsh Family Jerusalem Arts Campus, a cultural hub in the heart of Jerusalem that will revitalize the city and help ensure a vibrant future for Jerusalem.
UJA-Federation’s annual campaign remains the single largest philanthropic undertaking by any local community anywhere in the world. The 2017 general campaign chairs were Alisa F. Levin and David L. Moore. Mark Medin serves as UJA-Federation executive vice president of Financial Resource Development responsible for all fundraising efforts.
